Rinsing the Salt Out of My Bathing Suit

I won’t cry over a spilled summer
drained empty
like the last gulp down the sink
I won’t squeeze
another beach day out of August
mourn the blueberries of July
dripped dry
I will lay in the low slant
of late sunflower light
I will soak up the gold
of a perpetual setting sun

One of the best poems and I feel the same way.
I love the title too. xo

Beautiful--and the photograph captures that bittersweet feeling perfectly.

I love how the sunset lasts so long this time of year as if giving us a last blast of heat before the already cooling night.

I will soak up the gold

A beautiful sentiment for the end of summer, and a beautiful metaphor for life.

Colleen.. I LOVE this poem. I will aspire to its message.. but must admit to bit of denial. :-)

This was perfect timing as my summer ends and school begins tomorrow. I really like this poem... it goes very well with the photo also.
