Crepe-myrtle is late summer’s answer
to the lilacs of spring
Happy girls with pink berry pom poms
shaking in the breeze
Ironweed purple and goldenrod yellow
in September school colors

I'm trying to get in late summer lillies and mums today to keep my color going. The rain was great but it crushed some of my HUGE Cosmos and Verbena that was my patio showstopper.

Knocked over my zinnias and some of my tomatoes but fattened up my late corn.
This photo was taken at my dentist's parking lot. I jotted the poem while out in the far depths of the country while I was doing hourly work for a foster care family and their resident, the same time I was watching the deer below. It was a very poetic setting.
I'm planting late arugula and lettuce today in my cold frames.

Gorgeous. I have a miniature plant in my yard, and it isn't that pretty this year.

great photograph and wonderful poem! ours has not bloomed yet and may not considering that summer appears to be GONE here! it usually blooms in august, but our august was so cool. now we are in the 60s, and i doubt we will climb out too far before fall is here to stay.
do you work for family and children services part time? doing work for a foster care family must be rewarding.
