13 Thursday: The Curve Ball

13bll.jpg 1. New motto for my overbooked husband: "No" is a complete sentence.

2. Handwritten on the inside cover of my book of Mary Oliver’s poems: The poet’s answer to Georgia O’Keefe’s paintings.

3. Seen on a Get Well Greeting Card at the Pharmacy: “Don’t worry – Stressed is just Desserts spelled backwards.”

4. Flamingos remind me of long legged ballerinas in pink tutus.

5. I have never played pool but I play in the pool. I like the 8 beach ball the best.

6. It was so cold the other day that I had to start a fire in the wood stove. While crumpling newspaper, I noticed a Washington Post photo of the Pope’s red shoes. The caption beneath it said, “There’s no place like Rome: Pope Benedict XVI arriving at Andrews Air Force Base with his ruby red slippers, rumored to be Prada.”

7. I was so jealous.

8. Best quote about the Pope’s red shoes came from a woman in Central Park: “He’s got big shoes to fill and the red shoes are just the ticket to do that.” popesshoes1x.jpgThere’s also a song about them HERE.

9. Funny how the pope’s hat is almost like a wizard’s and a wizard’s hat is the same as a dunce’s.

10. A witch’s hat and church steeple also have a point in common.

11. HERE’S my blog friend Rick Mullen reading his poem, “The Chelsea,” from his newly published chapbook “Aquinas Flinched.”

12. My shoes aren’t red but my last name is.

13. My favorite burgundy silk pajamas were recently spotted HERE.

Thursday headquarters is here. My other 13's are here. View more 13 Thursday’s here. #131

He certainly doesn't put on red shoes for dancing (David Bowie) lol !

That makes 2 of us who have never played pool!

2. Ah, I love Mary Oliver's way...and you're right on with the comparison.
3. Now this I must remember!
6. Glad to see the editor has a sense of humor.

Love #3.

I wish hats were more common. I love hats of all shapes and sizes. Except for baseball caps!

I read where the Pope made the best dressed list because of his accessories! I love the way your mind works and all the associations it makes.

It took me a bit to realize those really were YOUR pjs.

I love Prada but I don't think I could do that red...maybe I could trade the shoes for a nice red purse!

When I opened it today I thought "Why is Colleen so far behind?" I still think it is Monday or something.

I wonder if your husband could teach that sentence to MY husband! ;) I love red shoes. Someone told me once that nothing can go wrong if you have red shoes. And I think they are right!

I don't think I have ever owned a pair of red shoes. Somehow, that makes me sad.

I liked that stressed is desserts spelled backwards. I'll have to remember that one.

I absolutely love comment #3. Desserts is stressed backwards! LOL

I most definitely love No. 1. I will never look at flamingos the same way. Not even the lawn ornament ones!

Why does he wear red shoes? Is it something he HAS to do? My new water bottle is burgundy...very pretty!

Apparently, it's a longstanding tradition. More here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Papal_shoes But the last pope didn't wear red shoes because he preferred brown shoes that represented his humble beginnings.

Love the red shoes and the red jammies. I may have to get red shoes for my husband's doctoral hooding ceremony--they'd go with his robe. But I don't think I'll get Prada--too expensive.

Oh, I just mentioned the red Prada shoes with my hubby and said, "The devil wears Prada, why not the Pope?"

That's great! I really am LOL.

The burgundy silk pajamas is a weird video........but you should see the one beside it. Banana pajamas??!! xo

I like your silk jammies, Colleen!

I totally missed out on hearing about the Pope's red shoes. Glad you put him and his shoes in your 13. I think anyone who's brave enough to wear red shoes can't be ALL bad. ;)

Stressed/Desserts... very clever.
~S :)

I *heart* red shoes.

Love the card you saw! I'll have to remember that so that when I'm stressed I'll reach for desserts!!!

btw, Michele sent me tonight - but, I'd have been here anyway!!!

That Prada shoe thing has been discussed for a number of years...just one more strange thing to not think about or I will get sick.

The red shoes...where's Mother Teresa when you need her?
