Are you sure these are flowers

They're better than fireworks (and they don't scare the dogs!)

The leaves on that third one look like a magnolia but the opening flower looks pink. I noticed in Roanoke the other week that the inner parts of the magnolia trees there were red tinged while those here are beige.

And the fourth flower is it a 4 o'clock? We planted twenty or so here this year. They are tall, spindly and loaded with flowers that can't tell time. These don't open at 4, more like 9 or 10 when it is dark and you can't get a good picture. I may have to cover them with a dark plastic to make them think it is night and then try to get a picture.

I think they look much more like fireworks -- great captures of some incredible natural beauty.

Visiting from Michele's this morning and wondering if Dear Abby ever answered your freckle question!!! Happy Monday!

Absolutely gorgeous photos! Beautiful flowers, but I think the only one I know might be a Clematis?

I'll post the answers at at the end of the day.

Word nerd, here's a clip from my webpage (http://silverandgold.swva.net) bio that explains the Dear Abby (as best as I can remember it).

“Dear Abby, How can I get rid of freckles?” was my first attempt at writing for publication. I wasn’t trying to be a published writer, at the age of eleven, when I wrote it; I just wanted an answer to my question. Although I seem to recall an answer—having something to do with a lemon—I can’t be sure because I also know that I had a vivid imagination and I didn’t read the newspaper then. Whether my letter to Abby was published or not doesn’t matter as much as the fact that I understood the power of writing, even at that young age."

Well it was obviously a good first experience, because here you are, still writing and still enlightening those of us fortunate enough to happen upon your blog. Great stuff!

Beautiful flowers... I'm not very good with flower names so I'm not even going to attempt a guess. Just love the pictures!!

The first is a Tiger Lilly. I don't know what the second one is...but I know I've seen it. Third is a Rodeadendron (can't spell it, but know it very well!). The fourth looks like a four-o-clock...or...shoot, I can't think of the name. The last one is beautiful, but I don't know that one at all. We saw fireworks last night...with my 7 year old clawing at my back trying to get away! I got her settled down for a little while, then the finalie hit and she was hysterical again....and it was a good one! Hope you have a wonderful time at your son's wedding! I went to my Dad's last night and he said to let him know when I plan to come up to visit you...he wants to come along with me!

I wish I could say I knew them all, formally. Alas, I do not. But they're beautiful. That much I *do* know.

Lily, allium, rhododendron buds, bellflower, and bee balm?

Beautiful photos! I havent seen flowers like that around here for a while.

Colleen, my Holland flower book calls the blue one platycodon grandiflorous, but we florists call it bell flower.

Wonderful pictures! will be back to find out about their names. My TT today includes a bubble wrap link, following your last TT!

If that last one is "bee balm" maybe I need to get rid of it. We have a ton of bees. Actually I lost a big section of that to upsize the deck, I never knew what it was called.
I just knew lily and rhododendron.
I love those little blue flowers that look like they are growing right out of sticks we have in our area. Are they like straw flowers or something? I should brush up on my native plants!

First is an orange lily, 2nd last, morning glory and last fireworks is bees balm?

Lovely all.

rhodedendron and morning glory are the only ones I THINK I know :)
