A Solo Porch Vacation

pv.jpg No one comes. No one calls. The constant motion of September wind sounds like ocean surf. It flattens the tops of trees like women’s hair blown back from driving in a car with the top down. It pushes the clouds across the sky. They rush like a river intent on downstream. The sun blinks as they pass like a light bulb switching on and off, threatening darkness. Notebook pages flutter up at the corners. Poplar, oak, and fir swish like skirts, making me think of fabric: taffeta, crepe, and silk. With one gust, wind chimes fly into a panic, complaining about the end of summer, I suppose.

You reminded me that I put my wind chimes away when we were battening down the hatches for Hanna. I'll have to get them out tomorrow, so mine can complain (although with temps in the high 80's and low 90's, they can hardly complain about the end of summer.....LOL

my favorite wind chimes are glass prisms, but i have always been afraid to leave them outside in case of a fiercely gusty wind, so i have put them in front of a window which is also above an A/C vent - 2 chances for movement. :)

It sounds like you got some breeze from Ike as we did, it felt pretty good actually. Love the images in your prose, very calming and peaceful.

It's certainly a different feel and look around here too. As I walk around, I'm a bit sad for the passing away of summer, but at the same time, I'm a bit giddy thinking about the coming crisp air and autumn leaves.

This felt a little melancholy to me! Hopefully we'll be rid of the intense heat and move into cooler days. But then that is followed by the really cold and bleak. Sigh. It is time for a little melancholy after all!

a little blueness I feel.......

I love the feel of your porch and yard!

In a way it is strange to read about the end of summer, because here, it is still very much summer....I remember quite a few of those posts, Colleen. You had a very full summer with lots of events and quite a bit of traveling, too....And now, you will settle in for the Fall and Winter....Ahhhhhh to live where there are Four Seasons!

What a lovely, vivid, and descriptive post, Colleen! I felt like I was right there with you on your solitary porch vacation. :-)

I am so like those chimes! I don't want summer to end, but end it must I suppose, as sure as fall must begin!

I love this..Chimes do speak to us..they are the only things I 'collect'.
