Word Nerd

wordnerd2.jpg I’m a weekend writer because a writer’s work is never done. While my husband’s off to a work-day, helping a neighbor put a roof on his house, I’m at home trying to decide the difference between the word “fathom” and “summon.”

While he’s at the golf course driving and putting with buddies, I’m trying to write a poem about memory but not use the word memory in the poem (or at least not more than once).

While he’s in the yard practicing his martial arts, I’m still in the house trying to summon the meaning of memory, trying to fathom what memory actually is and how it works.

Being a word nerd is cool! Michele sent me today

I am not a writer.......but I can understand your dilemma. xo

A gift one day. A dilemma the next.

Doesn't my notebook look the poster that used to hang in our bedroom?

Colleen, As I have said before; it's interesting to me we are often on the same page in our posts (same page of a different book).
Just yesterday, while working on my Sunday entry, I was reading all about the brain. The Cerebral cortex, is the part of the brain that has to do with memory, language and consciousness. Practically speaking, this then is where the answer to your question resides.

I know though that your question was meant to be taken more philosophically. So my answer, poetically speaking, is that our memory is our soul's expression...or something like that.

I love the notebook!

Memories... so strange. This weekend we sat in a church viewing pictures of the past 50 years. People I knew when I was little, some gone some still with us. Others that were familiar to some people but not to me. All together we made up the history of this congregation. Some in the beginning, others later on and a rare few that had been involved the whole half century. It was wonderful and wierd at the same time.

Of course in the process we made new memories.

oooh that book makes me dizzy!!!

Colleen, Get up on your garage roof and take up a couple of martial arts poses. Have your husband drive till a golf ball hits your noggin. When you wake up you'll be thrilled to know you can still summon up your memory. Fathom that.

Do I so totally rock, Dudette, or what?

Paul

Love the post and your swirling notebook. That thing will trip you out!

I see Martin scratching out a word, re-writing, scratching out....back and forth. At the breakfast table, at church, in his comfy chair. You guys are ON all the time!

Oh my can I ever relate to this.
Ed's passion is fishing so whenever he heads out back to the pond, I find myself either crossword puzzling or putting together more bits and pieces from my book which will never be done.
