The Fling of Spring
Spring is a fling of short lived blooms, more about romance than marriage. Crocus and daffodils, my first loves of spring, make a strong impression, but soon I’m feeling fickle, waiting for tulips. And no sooner do my eyes adjust to the brilliant gold of forsythia then the dogwoods burst on the scene. The dogwoods are followed by the sweet smell of lilacs and the pink of head-turning azaleas, at which point irises just begin to catch my eye.
Before long, the old flames of spring are replaced by summer blooms. My love affair with irises fades into the background. Rhododendrons replace irises and lilies replace rhododendrons faster than the pages of a calendar can be turned.

Don't forget the wisteria. Too short spring, too short.

Is that a picture of your garden? A very nice location if so.
Here from Michele's today.

Yes. But unfortunately, the woodchuck that shows up in April tears up my yard until August. Fortunately, my daughter Lydia named him Mr. Clam when she was four. She is seven now, and has to deal with me calling him Mr. Clam. This makes the woodchuck tolerable.~,:^)

We have moles...and skunks that dig spoon sized holes all over our yard. Bees are eating the house from right under us with the help of their neighbors, the ants. We seem to be raising a supersized species of mice via the dogfood on the porch. Still, we manage to get our heads turned around by spring every year.
I've yet to name a mole, skunk or anything, although I once knew a palemeto bug in Florida that lived in my grandmother's car. His name was Freddie.

'One of my flower gardens', I think that you must have rather a large garden?

Ahhhh you fickle Spring Girl! (lol...I can surely understand one thing leading to another where Spring Flowers are concerned....THIS is my very favorite season...life renewing itself and in such a magnificent and colorful manner. It is such a hopeful time, isn't it?

Laughing, because I've been defining spring down here in terms of bugs rather than flowers -- though the flowers are in there, too. (Taking a break and stopping in during my work marathon....)
