Unleashed Wind

The following poems were inspired by the wind storm we had this past weekend. Up here in The Blue Ridge Mountains of Floyd, we lost our power, and at times I was writing this by candlelight.
~ The Lashing
Unleashed wind lashes
slapping through branches
of innocent trees
that cower like children
in fear of the whipping
Bowed over and trembling
they whine through the howling
outside my window
too many to save
~ A Mountain Chill
A chilled wind slices
through tabletop ridges
clouds cut to the chase
across a tumbler of sky
Glassy ice blue
overwhelms the horizon
like a drink on a counter
spilled over
Photos: The first photo is of the trees in the back of my house that survived the intense winds as seen from my window after the storm. The photo above is of my son, Josh.

Beautiful! We've had wind, but not a wind storm. I'm hoping it blows out all of this icky air we're breathing.
PS - Michele sent me.

Beautiful Colleen! We were in Richmond this weekend. Lots of wind and rain there too. I just have to tell you...my older son, Kris, saw the picture of your son and said, "Mama, that's a pirate!" I don't know why, but I figured you might be amused by his comment.;)

Colleen, that was beautiful! It is a perfect description as to how the weather has been in my neck of the woods lately as well. Very cold and very windy. It will be good when spring finally comes!

Great poetry---it makes me inhale briefly, think and then sigh.

Reading the first, I could feel the storm blowing through all over again. So powerful.

Love a good wind! Glad to see more poems coming out.
(and re: pic you commented on, Yep, functional urinals, stamen and all, and for $7500 it could be yours. :-) Clark Sorensen makes a bunch of shapes.)

We were near Richmond too and the wind woke us up in the middle of the night. It was terrible. I'm sorry about the power. I'm knocking on wood right now, I really am, but we haven't lost power yet in the eight years that we've lived in this house. It goes off right around the corner all the time, but our house is on a lucky streak. Even so, Amy got me one of those neat little flash lights for Christmas that you hand crank, just in case.

wonderful!
We've had some bad wind storms these last few days.. kept me awake all night last night due to tree branches hitting my house.

Great, the local news just told me to bring in the patio furniture because it is going to be a very windy night. And it's blowing your way according to their graph.

I don't think anything could be as intense as the wind we got over the weekend. When I walked to the mailbox on Monday, the ground was littered with branches and twigs that had come down.
It's funny, Tammy, that your son said Josh was a pirate! He does look a tad sinister in that shot.
Stay safe and warm!

There is another wind warning out here at the beach right now and I hear them kicking up again. The temperature has increased to 60 degrees since supper. I would not like to be out on the ocean tonight.

Wonderful poems and photos -- they bring back memories of hurricanes and tropical storms here.
