Sign of the Times

peacemarch2.jpgThe following poem, written for the New Year 2004, was a featured "Poem of the Day" at Poets Against the War online that year and also appeared in The New River Valley Free Press. I think it still applies.

Sign of the Times

Put a “Do Not Disturb” sign
over the forest
Hang an “Out of Order” sign
on the White House door
Proceed with caution
Yield to your conscience
Handle the whole world
with care

I think that saying is so completely true, for 2004 and 2005. I hope that eventually we as a nation will start thinking with our brains again. You have such a great talent with writing things :) Big hugs and best wishes for a great 2006!

Here via Michele's :)

Good Morning Colleen...Michele sent me this morning, though I would have been by anyway. I get so angry discussing Bush and politics I can't stand it....hope you have a very happy new year!!!

Love it.
Happy New Year. Here from Michele's.

I absolutely refuse to think about him for today at least.

Very Well Said. Happy New Year.

Happy New Year! Well said!

Have the happiest of New Years, Colleen!

Had I remembered your poem from 2004, I would have used it, for it fits well with my entry today. Happy New Year to you Colleen, and to Joe, Josh, Dylan and all your readers. Kathy

I bet you were a great hippee in the ate 60's and 70's Colleen.

Wishing you every happiness in 2006.

Still so true. We must never give up in our struggle to find a way to live in peace.

Wishing you a yours a Happy New Year.

Amen. Happy 2006 friend!

Beautifully said. Happy New Year, Colleen!

Beautiful poem. (The song Where Have All the Flowers Gone? ("When will they ever learn?") is playing in my head now.) Wishing you all good things in 2006!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! May it be a peaceful one ;0) Great photo..simply because of what it stands for.

This really takes me back. It's good to hear a positive thought, and great to know that some of us can still be outraged by institutionalized idiocy in DC. Have the greatest of years, Colleen.

Love that!!!

Peace is the way!

happy 2006!

Great poem. May we find peace in the New Year.

A picture's worth a thousand words, eh?
