13 Thursday Fresh Picks
1. At the Friday night Jamboree in downtown Floyd, I met a woman name Beverly who moved here from Beverly Hills, bought some land and named it Beverly’s Hills. She was selling produce off the back of her Beverly’s Hills truck.
2. It was a two wristband weekend. On my left wrist I had my Emily Brass Band at the Pine Tavern wristband and on the right I had my Fairy Stone Park beach wristband.
3. As soon as I read that there was going to be a pie contest at the Floyd County fair, the pie lover in me wondered how I could get the job as a judge.
4. My poet friend Will who refers to himself politically as a dharmacrat and coined the term alter-native for the Floyd alternative community, also calls a month a moonth.
5. Quote found in September’s Museletter which just got put together at my kitchen table: There comes a time when autumn asks, “What have you been doing all summer?”
6. We’ve stuffed a lot in and, like a good meal, summer feels over too soon. I feel blessed by the fullness, the family interactions, and all the settings and activities that epitomize summer for me. More HERE.
7. I can’t wait to see THIS movie.
8. By now maybe you’ve heard about the woman who brought her newborn baby back to life after doctors had given up on him by skin to skin contact and talking to him. If not, check it out HERE.
9. My Asheville potter son Josh is in Berlin, at the start of a 3 week 4 country trip that will involve Germany, Spain, France, and Denmark and him giving wood-firing presentations in Germany and Denmark. Bryce and I made THIS movie for him yesterday.
10. Is it the Seine and Thames? Are they the same with different names? Germany’s Rhine rhymes with wine and the rain in Spain falls mainly in the plain.
11. Line I wrote for an upcoming talk I’ve been invited to give at a high school English class: Being a local writer is a lot like being a small farmer. You do it because you love it. You can make some money, but in general you’ll probably need a second job to support yourself.
12. One of my crocs shrunk overnight. It’s suddenly and visibly a whole size smaller than its mate. I can’t even get my foot into it. So I googled “my croc shrunk” and found THIS.
13. Is THIS for real?

Great list, Colleen, and thanks for visiting my blog. My sister’s wedding was a bit like being in a fairy tale – I doubt I’ll ever have the opportunity to do something like that again.
That tree is amazing and I love the shrunken Crocs tip! Have a great rest of the week.

No, Seine and Thames are definitively not the same, lol ! I prefer the Thames by far !
When crocs shrink, feet became bigger I guess
The dancing tree is terrific !

I hope you get to be a judge at the Floyd Country Fair pie contest. It sounds charming. Was there something about tongue-twisting in My Fair Lady? I wish I could see the Thames again soon, and hopefully Seine along some stopover….

#11 is unfortunately very true and the truth of it is making my heart weep today. Most days I am okay with it, though.

Number 11 is fantastic! It is so very true about small time writers. At least that is how I feel, I write because I enjoy doing it. I have to check out #7 now and your links, thanks for the visit today.
