This Week’s Last Minute Peeks
Students in the lower elementary class at Blue Mountain School painted placemats for the third annual Empty Bowls, a fund-raising event hosted by Plenty! to be held at The Jacksonville Center for the Arts this Sunday from 11 – 1:30. A meal of soup served in hand-thrown pottery bowls (which you get to keep) raises money for the Backpack Project of New River Community Action, which sends backpacks full of food home with children in the county over the weekends. The Blue Mountain School, once a parent-run cooperative that my sons attended, is now a contemplative progressive community school, which I wrote about HERE.
Warm weather brought crocs without socks for play in the sandbox and other outdoor play. I knew Joe was missing our grandson Bryce (pictured here with his big sister Kaylee), so when I went down to Roanoke yesterday to babysit, I tried to get him to say “Hi Opa” for the camera. I got that and more HERE.
I read about them in the paper and went with my friend Jayn to hear them play at the Sun Hall on St. Patrick’s Day, but I only just now got the play on their name “The Celthix,” Irish music with a country hick twist. Their Myspace page reads: “The Celthix’ music pays tribute to those who have gone before them. The songs that the group plays span hundreds of years and tell the story of the people who live in the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia and their ancestors from Scotland and Ireland.” The band is from just down the mountain in Patrick County. Hear a clip HERE and HERE.
This Floyd mother and son found a comfortable spot at the Black Water Loft coffee house to work on a homeschooling lesson. Due to the closing of Café del Sol, the Spoken Word will be held at the Loft this Saturday, starting at 7:00. A post from a past Spoken Word at the Loft is HERE.
Your Turn. What did you see and do this week?

I enjoyed this post. I spent time in the garden! Loved the smell and feel of the earth. A balm to a somewhat tortured soul.

soaked in the sunshine, had dinner at my favorite Indian restaurant with hubby and a friend, chatted with my stylist at the salon, had an early morning back massage, walked through the gardens, took a few afternoon naps, and was challenged by muscle pain most of the week (which is better today, thankfully!).

Thank you for sharing the link to the Celthix….I loved them!!!
I love the backpack project, what a great idea!
It is fun to see homeschoolers hanging out and working at the coffee house! That is my kind of homeschooling (and something Katarina and I haven’t done for a while…..maybe this week!)
My week has been pretty low key, we have an artist friend who is showing his work this weekend at a festival, so I am hoping to go there tomorrow!

So happy you all have found a wonderful place for your “SPOKEN WORD” get-togethers! I know you all must be very pleased, too….So sad about Cafe Del Sol…..Ah well….nothing stays the same, does it?
I signed some very very VERY important papers this week—-An update and re-newal of my LIVING TRUST. Something everyone should have–including the end-of-life stuff….!
