December’s Unlikely Porch Vacation
On the same day I received three Christmas cards in the mail, I also sat in a lounge chair on my porch, sunbathing with barely a stitch on. The feeling was spring but the sun hung too low. The sound of my neighbor’s lawnmower had been replaced with the sound of a distant chainsaw. Last week we were bringing in firewood with gloves on and keeping the stove going day and night. Today it was chickadees happily eating sunflower seeds, Joe doing martial arts in the yard, and confused oak buds green and plump looking ready to pop. Lunch and laptops were spread out on the picnic table. A walk to the mailbox turned into a hike, bringing us to the creek where our dog Jazzy likes to drink and where the boys used to play. In a morning out of time, in between worlds or seasons, I peered down into the creek water as if it was an oracle and said to Joe, “Wait. Don’t move.”
“This one’s called “Living on the Edge,” I said, showing him the picture I snapped.

Sounds fantastic. Taking boarders or travellers? Ah, snow really is nice too. Especially when it's a mild only -2 or so. :)

If today is a slow day in the blog world, I'm going to rename this "Fishing for Comments."

Fishing for comments? Well, here's one. But I like "Living on the Edge" better. We are having record high temperatures here in Chattanooga, in the mid-70s in December! Yesterday we hit 77F and people are wearing shorts, like in summer.

it's been in the 60's here, after snow and cold last week. i love your title for the pic! :)

Well I caught a few big ones already!
The title, "Living on the Edge," is even more appropriate considering the conversation and life issues we were processing, but I didn't want to get into that, at least not on the front page!

Mild unseasonable days like this are gifts.. that is for sure. How lovely that you got to enjoy yours so. Basking in the sun in December.. sounds like a dream. :-)

With temps like these, who needed to go to Florida! Glad you're all enjoying them, but a part of me is uneasy, thinking it shouldn't be.

It's been cold here in Massachusetts.
The feet that pictured on the ledge......do not look like you and Joe's, are they??

Yes! We're in our house clothes and shoes.

Same here, Colleen. It was a balmy 78* today, and it won't be cooler here again until Monday.

I wonder if the unseasonably warm weather has to do with climate change?
Although it's been rainy, damp and cold here - nothing unusual for this time of year on the pacific northwest.
Great photo!

I'm glad I'm not the only one wondering whether it is summer or winter - seems the seasons in both hemispheres are confused!

Wow! I took a similar shot but it on;y showed the top of my boot and bottom of my coat in the 2 1/2 ft of snow!

You always come up with the best titles for your photos. Which comes first? The photo or the title?

Great caption for that shot! You are very good at that.

That one I liked what I saw, snapped, and as soon as I saw it in the camera screen I named it.

I love the photo and the caption. What a unique perspective on things. We've got nice weather at the beach in Southern California.
Hugs and blessings,
