13 Thursday: The Shape of Things to Come

13mdandala1.jpg 1. My hands slipped while writing an email to my blog friend and fellow poet, Pris, and I called her Prism, which I think is appropriate seeing as how she sees the world through a poet’s eye.

2. Once I pointed out to a friend that by adding a G to her last name “Robinson” it would become “Robinsong.” She changed her name.

3. At one time we had THIS poster of Bob Marley in our living room. Both my mother and my friend Alywn thought it was Joe the first time they saw it.

4. I’d be really sad if Willie Nelson ever cut off his braid.

5. In the first year of Joe’s and my relationship I had a hard time saying “I love you.” Not because I didn’t but because it seemed cliché to say, and it didn’t seem to cover what I was feeling. Eventually I was able to say, I’m so loving you.

6. I can tell Christmas is nearing when my stat counter says I have a visitor from Santa Clara but I read it as “Santa Claus.”

7. My friend Rosemary sent me an email asking if we could get together for Scrabble. I answered, “Let me check the master plan, aka my calendar.”

8. It’s gotten so cold lately that we’ve had to batten down the hatches, which in our case means the doggie door.

9. Such is the life of a poet: I spent a good part of the day yesterday looking at pinwheel videos and writing a poem about fruit in which one line says: What’s a apricot got that a kumquat does not?

10. I believe in the bluebird of happiness, I just haven’t seen one in awhile.

11. I got a holiday invitation that ended by saying, “google for directions.” All I could think of is what I would have thought if I got that same message 5 years ago.

12. The root of the word GOOGLE comes from “googol,” a very large number that looks something like THIS. 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, etc….. Or better yet because my hand is getting tired: THIS

13. And THIS is the shape of things to come. Make of it what you will.

Post notes: If # 13 is down try THIS one, compliments of Smiler. Thursday headquarters is here. My other 13's are here. View more 13 Thursday’s here.

I'm so with you on the saying 'I love you' being cliche. It took me some time to say these words to my SO. Happy Holidays!

Yes, Willie Nelson without a braid is unthinkable. :-)

My Thursday Thirteen: 13 men who give me impure thoughts.

I haven't seen the "bluebird of happiness" in a while either, but I have seen the "indigo bunting of joy." Very rare!

I loved number 6, I would make that mistake.
Great T13. Mine is up.

a white room is my future? great!

Excellent post for Thursday Thirteen. Have a great day. :)

I laughed about the Willie Nelson part because hubby and I were just talking about him last night.

I love your list. I have a similar problem saying "I love you" because it doesn't seem sincere to me when said to a lover... and "me too" even less sincere. Kind of sad that such a beautiful expression of sentiment should have been reduced to a mere cliché, no?

The snowmaker is down for maintenance, but I mentioned one once... I must have spent a couple of hours on that thing: http://www.zefrank.com/snowflake/ I have zefrank as one of my links under "visual blogs"

me too, about the 'i love you'. i really don't think a lot of people even *really* know what love is. we use it very flippantly in our culture, mistaking lust for love, me thinks.

fun list! i'm off to make my own snowflake! :)

I'll bite: whats an apricot got that a kumquat does not?
Michele sent me to ask.

And a kumquat is ...What?!

I think it's a rhetorical question asked with poetic license. I don't even know what a kumquat is.

Love the kumquat/apricot thing. I also love the pinwheel shown below (and the you tube video). And I love the gorgeous header....

Colleen this is sooo strange..today I walked out of the post office and there on a dogwood limb sat a bluebird with a berry in his mouth...he didn't fly away and I said "Hello little blue bird of happiness." And he was....I haven't seen one that close ever.

Stay warm up there! I had a Bob Marley poster in my college apartment that had the smoke swirls around it...my mom always thought it was advertising cigs.

I hope you'll see the bluebird of happiness soon!

Michele sent me to check out your thirteen things.
I'm with you on number 10 bluebirds seem to be so scarce- nothing like when I was a child.
I also agree with you on number 11, even watching a movie from 10 years ago it seems like another world with big clunky cell phones & computers which were barely in our houses yet.

I LOVE this TT, Colleen....It made me smile and even chuckle, and believe it or not, sigh, too! You can't ask for more than that.

I felt the same way as you with the "I love you"........I said to Nelson...I think I am falling, and eventually, I am falling in love with you.
I do not think Bob Marley looks like Joe. What ever happened to that poster.

I do believe we gave it to Josh who has it (or did) in his pottery studio. The copy we had was much more flattering of Bob and there was a slight resemblance. I recall a third person asked if it was Joe but can't remember who, not you, She!

kumquats and apricots 2 things I miss except in jams..hahaha any easy chidrens Christmas cookies you can think of ??

That was a nice way to kick off my Friday morning, thanks.

Michele sent me...

Hello, Colleen, Michele sent me by today. I had already read your 13 yesterday - but had not gotten back to post my comment.

So, today, I read them again and followed each and every link...and read all the posts that were linked - and linked on links there too...

It was one of the most pleasurable things I've done in a few days. I loved reading yours words and seeing the pictures - not only the photos on the blog - but the pictures your words bring to my mind.

Thank you.

you need to go over and read this post on poetry... wonderful:
