Thirteen Thursday in Neverland
1. There’s something contagious going around Floyd that makes poets write poems about Peter Pan. So far there are five poems with this theme written by five different poets who are scheduled to read them at the café bus at Floyd Fest this weekend. Also, OUTLOUD, the woman's poetry collective I'm a member of, will be doing a thirty minute performance piece on woman's issues under the Poetree at 3:30 on Saturday.
2. I think Tinkerbell looks like Wilma Flinstone.

3. I never considered Wendy … until the Beach Boys sang about her … The California girl with a tan … She went to the beach with Tiger Lilly … who wore a bikini …
4. I write poetry by ear like a musician who can't read notes but can still play music.
5. All my poetry is auto-biographical. I’m thinking that writing non-biographical poetry might be like being a gay actor who is playing a part of a gay person pretending to be straight.
6. “For every yard of poetry that (prolific) Mara rolls out, I write half an inch.” So began my spoken word open mic set this past Saturday night. I followed that remark with THIS and THIS as an example.
7. Choosing wedding attire for an outside wedding is almost an oxymoron. You want something dressy enough but comfortable, and you have to consider grass stains.
8. You also have to be able to do THIS.
9. When my son Dylan got married last summer his grandmother called me to ask if the women attending would be wearing hats. “Ah…I don’t think so but you can wear one if you want,” I said. She’s English.
10. Last night was the first time my husband and I emailed each other in real time from opposite ends of the house. The next morning while at the kitchen table together I called his cell phone so I could hear the special ring he has just for me. He said the name of it was something like "intrepid spy" or "rendezvous." It made us dance in our seats.
11. Sometimes when I’m typing real fast and my hands slip I end up in the Bermuda Triangle of the computer world, or Neverland.
12. Tinkerbell is described by the author of Peter Pan as a “fairy who mends pots and kettles,” so I have to assume that she was Irish. Not only did she have fiery temper and reddish hair, but her name comes from the Irish word “tinker,” a term related to tinsmith that describes someone who lives a nomadic gypsy life in Ireland (better known today as a “traveler”).
13. Before I knew that Pan was a lustful old man … that Peter was lonely when the boys went home … I was a child who knew I’d never fly … I was a girl determined … not to be tied to a 9 to 5 … wearing panty hose and stilettos … in the middle of July … More later…
Thursday headquarters is here. My other 13's are here. View more 13 Thursday’s here.

Peter Pan was a pedophile, and tinkerbell was a gypsy....film at 11! Girlfriend, you so crack me up. Hope you are enjoying this beautiful weather, it's gorgeous and cool here so I suspect the same in Floyd.

Since I am in the middle of writing my first Tween Fantasy, complete with fairies and giants, this is perfect timing to read your post. Happy T13!

Love #10...I often do that with friends LOL! For example, one friend's ringtone is Werewolves of London, cause she and I loved Warren Zevon. Another friend's tone is yo ho yo ho a pirate's life for me, cause we both love pirates :-)

I would like to come and hear your reading ! Please send me a ticket for saturday ! The Englishs without hats are just like snails without house especially on weddings, lol !

I seem to recall that Peter Pan's mother shut the window on him, leaving him outside forever. I slammed the book shut, in tears.

I think it was a grown up Wendy who did that to Peter. I do recall the ending being sad, even Tinkerbell had died, as fairies don't live long.
The poem weaves information about Peter Pan with Pan the goat god of wild creatures. I was very effected by the story when I was a child and saw it on TV when I was about five. And that's in there too.
Gattina, wish you lived nearby!

I now send text messages to my kids even if we're in the house together. They answer much more quickly than my trying to scream their names over the loud music :)
I have a special TT today about everything happening on my blog on Saturday for Blogathon 2007! Hope you'll stop by!
Happy TT!

now that you've stated it I can see Wilma in Tinkerbell. hehe. Oh and I always have my hubby call my phone when we are talking with people outside just because of the ring. It screams, "pick up, pick up, it's daniel pick up." can't remember where we found it but it sure does get the conversation going. hehe. Happy TTing!

Ha, maybe Tinkerbell and Wilma are distant cousins or something! ;)
What a fun TT -- thanks for sharing! And thank you for visiting mine. :)

Ugh..I wish I was going to the Floyd Fest this year! It's the same weekend as City/County. The girls will be with Bobby for the meet. I will be at home with the boys. We just had to have the transmission fixed on my van (cost over $2000) and Bobby will be taking that to the meet. I have his van that seems to be having transmission problems and won't go into reverse and is skipping gears. So, between the money and the vehicles, No Floyd Fest.:(
The girls are all about Tink and the other Fairy friends right now. We have a whole series of books about the Fairies that live at Pixie Hollow in Neverland. It's been fun reading them. One of my best memories of being a little girl was when my dad took us to see Peter Pan in the orange Gremlin at the drive in. Great memory!

I love what your son's grandmother said about wearing hats! I don't think I ever remember seeing the Queen or Queen Mother going without one!
Happy TT!

It is funny I see "Tinkerbell" on your blog today. I just saw a Franklin Mint necklace that is Tinkerbell. I think you would like it.

Yes, the Disney version of Tinkerbell is not what I had in my imagination when I read about Tinkerbell. :)

2, 13, hm, yes, you're right. I hadn't noticed those odd fiction angles.

Now that you mention it - I agree - Tinkerbell and Wilma Flinstone - twins.
Great TT as usual. I'm all about nyms this time round.
Have a great weekend, XINE

Love that last bit of lines, Colleen...Wouldn't it be wonderful if we all could fly? Being spirited wherever we wanted to go and then spirited back if we so desired...! "Beam Me Up Scotty" but in Pan Time...!

Excellent list.
I love Peter Pan & the whole crew.
...gay actor playing the part of a gay person pretending to be straight... wait, didn't they make a movie about that with Julie Andrews except the other way around? ;o)-
Great list. And... poet... remember, quality and quantity have nothing to do with each other.
Best,

When we married in the Bahamas the only fancy thing I wanted in my wedding was my dress. I had always wanted a Vera Wang. I loved the dress but the bottom was worn to pieces, but you know the pro's at the little laundry in Stuart fixed it right up.....and I sold it!

I had to read #5 twice. lol
I love hearing about how you & your husband interact. Because... it's that fun playful never-too-old attitude that me and B also create/participate in. I makes life buoyant and full and sparkly.
