The Compliment
This is the compliment I received first thing Sunday Morning: “You look like Mary Poppins. Your cheeks are rosy. Don’t tell Joe (your husband) I said that.”
It came from one of the individuals with a developmental disability that I sometimes provide weekend respite foster-care for, and it translates to mean: “You’re a fun caregiver and I like you, the way Mary Poppins was a fun nanny and the kids she took care of liked her.”
“Thank you!” I answered.

Hi, Colleen. I followed you home from Michele's. ; ) It was a great excuse to come by and visit as I haven't been by in a while.
I don't know about the whole Mary Poppins thing, but you do have quite the glow about you. I'm planning to come by next week (when I have an university break--woohoo!) to read your top ten and catch up. Put some tea on, won't you? : )

Well, there you go. See, caregivers are special people. They deserve all the compliments they get--and then some. You're a caregiver; you're special.
Replying to your comment of a few days ago: Yes, I've got my Top 10 ready and lined up, but won't post them till December. I sorta can hardly wait, but I'll practice my patience. I'm enjoying yours, but haven't finished yet. Thanks for participating. I'm surprised at the legs my suggestion took. I've had a lot of response. Interesting.

Has it been cold enough up there for rosy cheeks?

Hi again. I finished your Top 10. I like the "Who is a Writer?" one best of all. But I also like the one about your dad, which I had read before. It was good the second time, too.
The "writer:" I think you were looking over my shoulder and snitching my notes. Took the words right outta my mouth...er, pen.
I enjoyed them all. Let's do this again next year.
And thank you for latching onto my idea. That's as good a compliment as the one you received.

That is one of the sweetest compliments I have ever heard. I loved Mary Poppins. My favorite song was "Feed the Birds"; I cry every time I hear it.

How sweet! We'll have to meet sometime you're going to be in Roanoke! Funny the people that you meet through your blog. So close, but probably never would have met otherwise!

You know, compliments come too few and far between, don't they? How uplifting for you! Good job reading between those lovely lines.

(Those kind of compliments, I've found, are ALWAYS accurate.)
