FarmGate
Cutting down trees, splitting them for posts and digging holes are all in day’s work for building a fence around our garden. Watch some of the action below.
I wonder if the above video clip on splitting a locust tree with hand tools will be half as popular as the older video I posted on youtube showing Joe running a logsplitter. The logsplitter video has gotten over 12,000 views so far.
It actually took more than a day and there are more work days to come to complete the farmgate project, which was began to protect our garden from deer, bear, racoons and rabbits.
And here is the update as of this morning. It looks like our garden is growing posts.

loved seeing the videos – hard work being a farmer! how many trees will it take to get enough posts to build the fence? looks like a pretty big project.

Why are you trying to protect your garden from “beer”??? I guess documenting all that hard work was making you thirsty

Thanks for pointing that out, Gerry. Sherry usually proofs for me but she’s on vacation in Martha’s Vineyard.
I took a picture of the updated project this morning and there were already more than a dozen posts up. Our friend Bob is helping in this batch of photos. Another friend Elijah has also been working with Joe, pictured here: http://www.looseleafnotes.com/wp/2012/06/sunday-shadow-sun-hat/

That’s really cool that Joe is building a fence from raw timber. I look forward to seeing pictures of the finished product!

I hope our corn can hold out. Either a “bear” or raccoons had a first feast last night. The corn is about a month early!

Joe’s a glutton for punishment – it’s way too hot to be using a chain saw to fell trees! Much preferable to wait until October!

I enjoyed seeing your photos, although this fence business looks like hard work. I’m sure it will be well worth it when you’re done.
