Happy Birthday Floydfest
~ The following originally appeared in the Floyd Press.
Floydfest is turning 10 years old this month. A celebration honoring that milestone and the people that made it possible was held at Dogtown Roadhouse on June 29. Floydfest founders Erika Johnson and Kris Hodges and the Across-the-Way Productions staff welcomed over 100 people to the event and treated them to pizza and regional micro-brewed beer.
Johnson spoke of creativity and community when she thanked everyone from the stage, choking up as she did. Hodges introduced the evening’s entertainment, Farm Use Only, describing them as one of his favorite house bands back when he and Johnson owned Oddfella’s Cantina and when the band was called Wild Turkey.
Johnson led the crowd in a Happy Birthday Floydfest song, before cutting the cake, which read “Celebrating the Xtra Special Persons of Floydfest.”
A slide show of past festivals was shown on the Dogtown movie screen as friends new and old socialized, sharing their Floydfest associations. ~ Colleen Redman
